Tour Divide: Idaho

Shorted day today. We started in Sawtelle, Idaho. Nice to sleep in, eat a big breakfast and get a later start to the day. Another couple riding southbound was staying at the same hotel, so we were able to chat together over breakfast. Love the community you instantly get out here on the trail!

We opted to take the Fish Creek alternative route, which was shared with us by a northbound rider back in Lima. It avoided a very long sandy railroad way. We had to do more climbing but it was worth it. The bonus was we got to see the valley we rode in though yesterday. Only notable wildlife was a beautiful bird, looked it up and it was a Western Tanager. We spent much of the day in the forest, which provided some much needed shade as the temperature continued to increase.

The hardest part of the day was the horse flies! There were several times they would actually chase Richard. They were so big he could look over his shoulder and see this black dot following his every move. The little bastards kept up with him doing 17mph even with a modest headwind.

We were treated to our first views of the Grand Tetons as we approached our accommodation for the night - The Squirrel Creek Elk Ranch. We made it a short day, with the hopes of my legs making a recovery. After a seat adjustment yesterday, my legs seemed to be doing better today. Hoping they continue to feel better and we can do longer days again soon 🤞

The folks running the Squirrel Creek Elk Ranch were very down to earth and hospitable. We enjoyed chatting with them at dinner on the patio as well as the other guests. Richard had stayed here 4 years ago and knew he wanted to make a stop here to share it with me. So glad he did!
