Rainbow Road

Rainbow Road

As part of our training for the upcoming Tour Divide we did an overnight trip from St. Arnaud to Hamner Springs down the rainbow road. It was a 100km each direction and we were rewarded with a soak in the hot springs there - if we could make it in time before it closed. It was quite challenging at times with loose gravel and weighted bikes but the lure of having a relaxing evening helped push us along. The scenery along the route was absolutely breathtaking.

The ride started off extra chilly and with a fast descent. Ashley with all her layers on!
The views just kept going. We rode along this river for most of the ride.
All smiles but it was actually a tough first day. Ashley was not feeling 100% and our pace was just a bit slower than I would have liked for training purposes.
Hamner Springs - Our destination in sight!
The town was packed for a marathon the next morning. We made it to the Hot Springs but they were equally packed. We treated ourselves to a nice Thai meal.
Turns out Ashley really likes muffins.
Good thing she ate that muffin!
Almost back!
Getting close to the St. Arnaud ski area.

This was a super fun trip and I am glad it was recommended to us. It scenery was incredible and 100k is not that far of a distance but it was challenging at times - The road surface, the many water crossings, the cold. We pushed through together and go to explore our new area.
